Fall break reads

Yay, fall break! If you’re going on a trip, or just staying home in your pajamas and want a good book to read, you’ve come to the right place! (the books are categorized by length.)

SHORT

The Well is technically the prequel to Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, but it’s a good book on its own too. It’s not quite as good as Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry, but it’s still a great book.

A Long Walk To Water is a really short book, written in an interesting way. And the cool thing about it is, it’s not historic fiction. It is fiction, but it’s written about events that happen every day on another continent, where a twelve-year-old girl like Nya might be walking eight miles to water right as you’re reading this.

MEDIUM

The Devil’s Arithmetic. Wow. I read this one on a trip of my own once and I couldn’t stop thinking about it, specifically Tzipporah. I love the whole book so much, but the ending is so. Good. And it’s so sad.

The Penderwicks is so fun to read. It’s more of a summer read, but it’s a feel-good read for all the time too. And if you like it, there are sequels!!

Numbering All The Bones is sad. And…so honest. It’s fiction, but it just rings true about the human condition in general, trying to be part of something that just tears you down. Sorry. That was deep.

LONG

And finally, for those of you who get ten days off and need a loooong distraction on that four-day car trip, I recommend The Neverending Story. Yes, it does end eventually. But it is very long and possibly one of the best fantasy books of all time. Just to spark your interest, it’s about a bullied boy who hides in the abandoned school attic, reading a book one day, and the book switches from third to second person, starts calling him by his name, and…well, you’ll have to read it to find out.

Have a great fall break!
