Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! Spooky and scary books can really set the mood for this Holiday, so here are a few. I know not everyone likes super scary stories, so they’re labeled by creepiness level.

NOT THAT CREEPY

An Acceptable Time is technically the fifth book in the A Wrinkle In Time series by Madeleine L’Engle, but I highly recommend reading it on its own for Halloween. It’s about the history of Halloween and Samhain, which is the origin holiday of Halloween. It’s historical fiction, based on the true history of Samhain and the Celtic Druids. https://www.ericjkuhns.com/blog/the-real-origin-story-of-halloween-samhain#:~:text=Why%20did%20I%20make%20this,their%20realm%20and%20ours%20thinned. This link will explain a little more.

A LITTLE CREEPY

The Jumbies is a fantasy based on scary Caribbean folktales. It might make you slightly scared.

Jane Eyre and Frankenstein are a little creepy. Jane Eyre gave me goosebumps, although I’m kind of a wimp, so that doesn’t mean much.

CREEPY

Pretty much anything by Edgar Allen Poe is nightmare quality. I couldn’t even get through it. Do not read this if you’re younger than thirteen. Or ideally if you’re younger than fifteen. It has a lot of murder in gruesome detail.
