3 books about (Dis)ABLED kids
I wanted to call this post “3 books about (Dis)ABLED kids because of this quote from Aven in Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus. “I’m not disabled, I’m abled!” Which is such a good quote. Anyway, I love Aven, and I think you will too. Which brings us to the first book, Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus.
Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus is about a thirteen-year-old girl who was born without arms. Her name is Aven. This book is funny, but it’s also a mystery. (I’ll give you a hint.) It involves doppelgängers. Also, this book has a sequel called Momentus Events in the Life of a Cactus. It’s also amazing. I love Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus so much and I think you will too.
Out of my Mind is about Melody, a girl in a wheelchair who can’t walk or talk, but has a photographic memory. She’s brilliant, but no one at her school will give her a chance to prove how smart she is, until…(full disclosure: this book is pretty sad.) Out of my Mind has two sequels, Out of my Heart and Out of my Dreams.
The Brave is about a boy named Collin who counts the letters in people’s sentences and repeats the number to them. He can’t help it, although his dad thinks he does it to be annoying. But he’s been kicked out of so many schools, he doesn’t think this new one can be any different-except that it’s in Minnesota. Which means living with his mom. I love this book.
Well, I hope you read at least one of these, but hopefully all of them, because if you don’t, you’re missing out.
